Mt. Rainier National Park: Your Next Great Hike

Mt. Rainier is an active volcano in Washington that scientists say is potentially the most dangerous volcano in the Cascade Range. If any of Mt. Rainier's ice melted from volcanic activity, it would cause massive volcanic mudflows and debris flow, risking lives. Thankfully, Mt. Rainier has not erupted since 1894, which is excellent because the Mt. Rainier National Park is the perfect spot to visit for your next vacation. So, let's take a look at how Jess does Mt. Rainier.

Rainier's Activities

Scenic drives, bicycling, hiking, camping, mountain climbing, and skiing are all enjoyable pastimes at this national park. There are over 30 trails to choose from, so it is a different experience every time. A good place to start would be Paradise. Yes, it is really called Paradise. James Longmire, an American settler, took his daughter-in-law here and she declared, "Oh, what a paradise!" and it is easy to see why. The trails in this area have amazing waterfalls and streams. Additionally, there are informative exhibits, a cafeteria, a gift store, and many more activities. This is also only one of two areas that has lodging.

It is snowing year-round on this mountain, so it is important to carefully pick your trails so that you do not find yourself unprepared making your trek. However, from many of the main trails, you can come across breath-taking views of the snow-capped mountain. You can also see a variety of stunning wildflowers. There are wildflower guides you can take with you on your journey so that you can know what beautiful flowers you are gazing at.

A Thrill-Seeker's Dream

Skiing at this park can provide an awesome experience for split-boarders and alpine skiers, but be careful - avalanches are a real possibility and this area is not heavily patrolled. For thrill-seekers, this is a must. If you are not an avid skier, no worries. Mountain climbing can be equally as exhilarating. Think about how cool it would be to scale a 14,410 foot volcano. Of course, make sure you listen to your body and be honest with yourself about how you are feeling as you make your climb. This climb is no joke!

Best Bites

If you are hungry, there are a few options. Summit House Restaurant, The Snorting Elk Cellar, and Alpine Inn Restaurant all offer tasty options. The Mt. Rainier Railroad Dining Co. and Sidetrack Room allows you to enjoy a delicious meal in a very interesting setting. They serve classic American cuisine in an authentic railroad car. You can dine in for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This restaurant is biker-friendly, so you can ride right in! Connected to this restaurant is also the Hobo Inn, one of Mt. Rainier's lodging sites.

With an assortment of lakes, trails, streams, fun activities, and gorgeous sights all around, Mt. Rainier has it all. This mountain is a true gem for anyone who loves the outdoors and nature.
